INHEM's Registro Sanitario must approve label content, and packs must name the manufacturer and the party responsible for marketing the product in Cuba (with city and country of origin) and show the Registro Sanitario number with the issuing country; the registration holder is answerable to consumers for what the pack says.
Prepackaged foods must follow NC 108:2012 (aligned with Codex STAN 1-1985) and show food name, ingredients and additives, name and address of the manufacturer, packer, distributor, importer, exporter or seller, origin, lot, production and expiry dates, net content and storage; nationally produced food labels must be approved by the Registro Sanitario before printing, and Spanish and English are the accepted label languages.
Only nutrient claims for energy, protein, carbohydrate, fat, fibre, sodium, vitamins and minerals with Codex reference values are allowed; claims may not suggest cure, treatment or protection against disease, and foods may not be described as "saludables".
